You’ve been staring at your new website for weeks. Everything looks great. But before you announce it to the world, take an hour to run through this list. It catches the small things that cost enquiries, rankings and credibility.
Content
- Every page has a clear headline that says what it’s about
- Phone number, email and address are correct everywhere
- No placeholder text, “lorem ipsum” or test images left behind
- Spelling and grammar checked by someone who didn’t write it
- Prices, opening hours and team details are current
- Privacy policy and terms pages are live
Mobile
- Menus open and close easily on a phone
- Buttons are big enough to tap with a thumb
- Phone numbers are tap-to-call
- Forms are easy to fill on a small screen
- Nothing spills off the side of the screen
Search
- Every page has a unique title and meta description
- One H1 per page, with logical headings underneath
- Images have descriptive alt text
- Redirects are set up from old page addresses
- XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console
- The site isn’t accidentally blocking search engines (a surprisingly common slip)
Speed
- Images are compressed and correctly sized
- Pages load quickly on a mobile connection
- Unused plugins and scripts are removed
Accessibility
- Text contrast is strong enough to read
- The site can be navigated with a keyboard
- Form fields have proper labels
- Videos have captions
Tracking
- Google Analytics (GA4) is installed and recording
- Form submissions and calls are tracked as conversions
- Google Business Profile links to the new site
Security and leads
- SSL is active (look for the padlock)
- Backups are running
- Every form sends to the right inbox, and you’ve tested each one
- Spam protection is on
One last tip: ask someone who’s never seen the site to find your phone number and send an enquiry. Watch them do it. You’ll learn more in two minutes than in two weeks of staring at it yourself.
